Cutting Back ::

I need to cut back on my drinking. This is not because I just had some moral epiphany or for any sort of health reasons. It has everything to do with the fact that the shit is expensive. I've blown so much money in the bars in recent months that I could have pretty much had my credit card debt paid off had I not been drinking so heavily. The key is that I'm going to start limiting the number of nights that I'll go out in a week. If I only go out twice a week, and if both of those times I drink cheap beer in a cheap bar, then I'll have plenty of money left over. That's the plan.

Sure, that's the plan. But it'll never work. You'll plan to only go out, say, Monday and Friday. Then, it'll be Wednesday and you won't be able to take it any more. So you'll go out. Doomed to fail.
The only way to make it stick is to not not drink when you're not out at the bar. Stock up on Malt Liquor, and you'll be set for all those non-bar nights. Now that's a plan you can live with.

I hate paying for drinks at bars. I'm all for drinkin' in the privacy of my home. I've got my bar boozin' down to a respectable 2 nights a week. Wednesday Bloody Mary Night/Hamburger Hell and an additional floating night.

But problems arise if you base your schedule around drink specials. In Madison, we had regular specials Sunday through Wednesday (75-cent Pabst, 1.50 Rails, 1.50 Rails, and 2-for-1 Cosmos at a bar that also made a pint glass-sized Long Island for $5), so we were drinking most of the week at bars. Then we'd stay in or go to a party at least one night of the weekend. I guess it's not that hard on the pocketbook, but I think cheap bar drinks just make you drink more, so you end up paying as much anyway. But it's all good, right?

Nah, I don't find that I drink more during drink specials. But then, I never drink *a lot* anyway.

Hamburger Hell is pretty awesome - a 1/3# burger w/all the fixin's, fries, and a can of PBR for $2.75.

Wow! That's a kick ass deal!

If I'm not mistaken, it seems there are good deals to be had in bars all over town in Madison any night of the week.

I don't really have a convenient place to drink outside of bars right now. I live with my parents, Corey lives with his parents, Matt and Carrie are busy most nights of the week, and everyone else generally I only see at bars now. Trixie mentioned a potential party Friday night wherein we drink like it's 1996, but I don't know if any of our bodies can handle that sort of abuse anymore.

I figure the key is cutting back slowly. Maybe down to 4 nights a week. Then we're try 3. If we can get down to 2, that'd be great. Of course, that would probably require quitting my job also.

Yeah... Lucky for me Conway broke open the doors of blatant alcohol consumption at home long ago.

Does that mean that you and Moms are sitting at home consuming alcohol?

Erm, no. Moms is somewhat of a teatotaler
But Conway and I have made a good dent in the liter of Jamaican Rum he gave me for Christmas.
