Your name in print. We all like seeing it. Excluding mentions for scoring goals in varsity soccer my junior year of high school, I have been quoted in newspaper articles twice in my life, including one article that mentions this website.
The first came on February 9, 1998. While on a trip to Mars, Pennsylvania with my high school's American Field Service group, we were interviewed by Pittsburgh Post-Gazette columnist Brian O'Neill. He asked us about our experience coming to Western Pennsylvania for the first time and differences we observed between there and our hometown of Appleton, Wisconsin. In addition to sneaking in a couple of quotes from me, he also mentioned our band Asphyxiation. Yeah, we were cool.
The second came on June 14, 2003. Post-Crescent columnist Steven Hyden was writing a piece on weblogs and he interviewed me for the story. There were a couple choice quotes from the interview included in the story, along with a quote from one of my weblog entries. I don't know if it was Mr. Hyden's intention, but he quite successfully made me look like a nerd, which I suppose means he represented me fairly accurately. Nonetheless, I got my brief 15 minutes of fame and moved on.
- Wisconsinites smile at 'storm' (Post-Gazette | 2/9/1998)
- Online journals are catching on as ways to keep in touch with friends and family or as a way of reaching the masses (Post-Crescent | 6/14/2003)
