Yay for Kaufman ::
Forget your hole-in-the-wall town. Adaptation *still* hasn't opened here. They're too busy showing Just Married and all that other crap that's out right now. Frankly, there's only one movie in town that I'd even consider going to (and it would still involve me going to a matinee and probably not enjoying myself)--Catch Me If You Can. It will be at least another week before I can see Adaptation. Probably longer. Sigh. I've wanted to see it since I saw the trailer when I went to Punch-Drunk Love. Open, dammit!
Catch Me if You Can is actually definitely worth seeing. In my humble opinion (and who am I, really?), it's one of my fav Spielberg films. Then again, I'm not generally a big fan of Spielberg. He pumps out movies like GM pumps out new Cadillacs - sure they're quality, but they're also all the same.
I'm still looking forward to both About Schmidt and Chicago also. They showed the trailers for each of them before Bowling for Columbine, so I'm hoping that means they're coming soon.
Speaking of trailers, all three film trailers shown before Adaptation were military movies. Who was the moron marketing person who thought up that idea?
For the most part though, we haven't gotten anything for new movies lately either. The last time was 2 weeks ago. Last week nothing new opened at the Regal and Marcus opened Bowling for Columbine (which I think might be gone already). This week both of them opened Just Married and Marcus opened Adaptation. Of course, I think My Big Fat Greek Wedding is still playing at both theaters.
Adaptation must have just arrived in Milwaukee too. I was pretty pissed it wasn't there while I was home. I think now I will try to see it in roseville at the theatre I have free passes for.
For usually hating to pay to see movies, I've seen three big ones lately: LotR:two towers (ergh, no thanks.), Gangs of New York (which I absolutely loved), and I just tonight saw the 25th Hour. It wasn't what I would normally expect from Spike Lee but it was pretty good. I'd have to say though, some of the film's shining moments didn't have anything to do with the plot of the movie. They were just there, and I enjoyed them, but don't ask me why they were there.
The best post-movie conversation was "That poor Phillip-Seymour Hoffman, is he never not a pathetic wuss character?"
25th Hour - can't wait to see that one either, but it hasn't opened here yet. As for Phillip Seymour Hoffman, I don't think he was exactly a pathetic wuss character in The Talented Mr. Ripley.
