People Need to Think ::
While I don't support blood for oil in Iraq, I disagree that the draft should be used as a leveraging tool against military action simply because minorities make up a disproporionate number of enlisted men and women. If they signed up, they knew what they were getting into. The military is just that - the military. The military wasn't established just so minorities could get free money for college. If that's the only reason that many of them signed up for the military, then they owe the rest of the people of this country for what they're getting from our tax money. While it may be a more difficult road to follow, there are other ways of getting money from the government or getting ahead in life than signing up for the military in peace time to get free benefits. When people make a commitment to the military in peace time, they do so in full knowledge that they could be called into action at any time to defend our country. I don't want war with Iraq either, but threatening to reopen the draft just because minorities comprise large percentages of the military is a ridiculous suggestion.
